A band on your desk.

Pick a key, a progression and a drum preset. Your synths start playing a groove, and you play over it. Don't like it in C? Change the key; the bass and chords follow. Not sure what you just played? The Chord visualizer names it.

1. Start with a beat

Add a Drum Sequencer, cable it to your drum machine and pick a preset: House, Techno, Hip-hop, Breakbeat, Funk, Disco, Trap, Reggae One-drop and more. Each comes with its own fill.

Swing runs from straight to a hard shuffle and pushes the drums, the note sequencers and the arpeggiator together.

For example:a House beat on a TR-8S at 122 BPM, the fill landing at the end of every eighth bar.

2. Add chords

A Chord Sequencer plays a progression on any synth. Start from a preset (the Four-Chord Song, ii–V–I, 12-Bar Blues, Lo-fi, Canon) or build your own, then pick a rhythm for how the chords are played.

Fills add a short run, roll or approach into the next chord. A small arrow lights before the chord a fill leads into.

3. A bass line that follows

Add a Note Sequencer with a Bass preset (Root & Fifth, Walking, Acid, Octave Disco, Synthwave…) and drag the dotted harmony cable from the Chord Sequencer into it.

Now the bass moves with every chord change. Change the progression and the bass line follows, with no notes to re-enter.

4. Change key and tempo

The transport panel sets one tempo, swing and key for the whole patch. The sequencers play in the patch key unless you give one its own key, so changing it moves everything at once.

MIDI Noodle can lead the clock, or follow your drum machine's.

5. See what's playing

Drop a visualizer on any cable. Keyboard lights the held notes in each channel's colour, Staff writes them in notation, and Chord names the chord and its number in the key.

Visualizers pass every message on unchanged, so they can sit anywhere.
