MIDI Noodle · MIDI Untangle
Plan the cables before you plug in.
MIDI Untangle is a planner for the physical side: your devices with the sockets they really have, the cables between them, and what should play what. It checks every route can actually get there.
Three steps
Add devices: controllers, synths, interfaces, hubs, thru boxes and Macs, each with its sockets (DIN In, Out and Thru, USB, USB Host).
Add routes: drag from one card to the device it should play, with its channel and whether it must go over DIN or USB.
Press Untangle!, bottom left.
1 · Add devices
Placeholder cards for gear you own or are thinking of buying.
2 · Add routes
"Keystep plays the Juno on channel 1."
3 · Untangle!
It plugs in the cables your routes need and says what still has no way.
Every route checked
MIDI Untangle follows each route through hubs, thru boxes, interfaces, computers and the cables between them. A route with no cable path turns red. One that arrives on the wrong channel turns orange.
If the route runs through MIDI Noodle or a hub, a channel mismatch is just a note: send it to the right channel there.
Untangle! does the cabling
Untangle! plugs every unreached route into free sockets with the fewest new cables. When one output has to feed several synths, it shares it through a thru box or hub.
Click a cable to see whose MIDI it carries and which routes use it.
Compare layouts
Keep several layouts of the same studio side by side: with a hub, without one, before and after a new synth. Duplicate, rename and switch between them, with full undo.
Lens
Show All, DIN only or USB only, and judge routes by that kind of cable.
